Kane: Spurs victory was the ‘perfect send-off’

The curtain came down on Tottenham’s 118-year stay at White Hart Lane on Sunday and Harry Kane believes their 2-1 win over Manchester United was the perfect way to bow-out.

Goals from Victor Wanyama and Kane ensured Spurs finished their final home season at the Lane unbeaten and secured second place in the Premier League at the same time.

And the homegrown striker believes their triumph over Jose Mourinho’s side was a fitting way to end an emotional final campaign at their old ground.

“It’s been an emotional day but what a finish,” he said. “To score the winner, to win the game and finish unbeaten here is something special.

Tottenham’s title charge fell just short after losing to West Ham United last week but Kane said Spurs must reflect on the positives during a season in which they have already secured their highest ever points return in a Premier League campaign.

The England international said: “We’ve secured second spot. We’ve two games left and we can go out and enjoy it now.

“That’s progression from last season and we have to keep it going now. We have to keep working harder, keep getting better and hopefully, next season we’ll finish first.

“This has been a proper send-off to what has been an amazing stadium for us. I couldn’t be happier.”
