Injuries have resulted in Watford slump, says boss Mazzarri
Walter Mazzarri has lamented the amount of injuries he has had to contend with at Watford this season.
The Hornets comfortably reached the 40-point target to effectively stay in the division, but are ending the season badly, with five defeats from their last five games, including Monday night’s 4-3 defeat at champions Chelsea.
Mazzarri’s side are currently 16th in the table with one match left to play – at home to Manchester City on Sunday.
With Pep Guardiola’s side still not mathematically sure of a Champions League place, Watford will have their work cut out if they are to get past the Blues at the weekend.
And the Hornets are without a number of the first-team players, something which Mazzari believes has contributed to his side not finishing higher in the table.
“When we had the full squad we were seventh in the table, now we are missing four or five important players,” said the Italian.
“It never happened [to us] before this season to lose four games in a row, but it has happened to other teams who are stronger, so this is normal in the Premier League.
“I am convinced with a full squad we would have more points than we have now.”
