‘Call to action didn’t faze me,’ says Bournemouth goalie Allsop
Bournemouth goalkeeper Ryan Allsop says he took his sole Premier League appearance of the season in his stride.
The 24-year-old stopper, who featured once in the top flight for the Cherries in the 2015-16 season before being sent out on loan at Wycombe Wanderers and Portsmouth, replaced the injured Artur Boruc in Bournemouth’s 1-1 draw at Leicester City on the final weekend of the current campaign.
While he could do little to prevent the Foxes’ Jamie Vardy from finding the net, Allsop was pleased with his performance and says familiarity made it easy for him to not feel overawed at the King Power Stadium.
“I played with Charlie Daniels, Simon Francis and Steve Cook in League One and I know their games, which I feel helped a lot,” said the Bournemouth custodian.
“It’s always hard going into a defence that you don’t know and luckily, I went into a back four that I know very well.
“I felt I did well. I was a bit rusty but I eased into the game and grew in confidence, and on the whole, I was pleased.
“I work hard in training to make saves and I’ve put a lot of hours in on the training pitch this season improving my game with [goalkeeping coach] Neil Moss, the gaffer and [assistant goalkeeping coach] Anthony White.
“That stood me in good stead to go out and perform as well as I could.”
