Family of Montpellier striker Mounie play down West Brom move
A family member of Montpellier striker and West Brom target Steve Mounie says no negotiations over a potential move have taken place.
It had been reported that Tony Pulis was interested in the Benin striker, who scored 14 goals in his first season in the French top flight.
The Baggies are light on strikers and have been reliant on Salomon Rondon for goals leaving Pulis looking to add some depth to his squad ahead of the new season.
Mounie would be an exciting addition but one of his family members has been vocal about the speculation over the 22-year-old’s future.
“We are not in advanced discussions with any clubs,” they told Midi Libre.
“But it is normal for clubs to be interested in a 22-year-old striker who scored 14 goals in his first season in Ligue 1.”
West Brom boss Pulis will hope to be backed with transfer funds this summer as he looks to lead the Hawthorns club to a higher finish in the Premier League next season.
Mounie’s asking price is believed to be around £13 million, which would be a significant outlay for the Baggies on a player that has only had one season in top-level football.
