Klaassen can shine at Everton, says former Toffees midfielder Osman
Leon Osman has backed Davy Klaassen to shine at Goodison Park after the Dutchman’s £23.6 million move from Ajax.
Attacking midfielder Klaasen has penned a five-year-deal with the Toffees, after netting 55 times in 181 appearances for the Dutch champions.
He has scored four times in 14 appearances for the national side, and links up with fellow Dutchman Ronald Koeman on the blue half of Merseyside.
The 24-year-old arrives with a stellar reputation and goalscoring prowess, something Osman, who made 433 appearances in the centre of Everton’s midfield, believes he can continue in the Premier League.
“They say that the Dutch league isn’t as good as others around at the moment but he’s still been playing in a very good, competitive league and he’s been one of the standout players there,” Osman said.
“That’s all he can do – be the best player in that league and he’s pretty much proven himself to be that.
“Now it’s time for him to come to the Premier League and see if he’s going to make that step up too. All the evidence suggests he will be able to do that.”
“It’s an obvious addition that Ronald Koeman wants to his squad. It’s goals we need and we need more goals from midfield because I think last season five goals was the most scored by a midfielder.”
