Wanyama focused on maintaining Spurs run at Watford
Victor Wanyama had an emotional return to Southampton on Wednesday night but has put that behind him as Spurs prepare to face Watford on New Year’s Day.
The midfielder left the south coast in the summer after three years at St Mary’s and signed a contract that will keep him with Tottenham until 2021.
Spurs 4-1 victory over the Saints earlier this week was the first time the 25-year-old has returned to his former club with Dele Alli scoring twice.
And the midfielder explained how his focus remained fully on the job at hand throughout the game as he ignored any negative calls from the terraces.
“It was a bit emotional for me today, it was a little bit difficult but as the game went on I was confident,” he said.

“It’s even more difficult (when receiving a mixed reception) but for me, the fans in the stands don’t get into my head.
“I am focused on the players on the pitch and on doing my job and today I think we played well as a team. I’m really glad that we came here to a tough place and took maximum points.
“Now it’s important to keep on doing what we are doing and also to keep going game by game as well.
“Hopefully it can be the same as today, getting maximum points – that’s our aim. We can recover and be ready for the game.”
