Schneiderlin relishing Toffees midfield partnership with Gueye

Morgan Schneiderlin is optimistic his midfield partnership with Idrissa Gueye can establish itself as one of the best in the Premier League as the pair get used to playing with each other.

The French international joined Everton in January from Manchester United, with Senegalese international Gueye having arrived in the summer from Aston Villa.

With Gueye having been away at the Africa Cup of Nations, the duo have had limited game time together until now, but Ronald Koeman paired them in the heart of Everton’s midfield away at Tottenham on Sunday.

And while the Toffees were beaten in that game, Schneiderlin believes there is the potential for a very strong midfield partnership as Everton try to keep the pressure on Manchester United in the race for a spot in the top six.

He said: “I believe we can be a great partnership and a struggle for every team.

“For the first two games together against Middlesbrough and Sunderland we felt good together.

“(Gueye) wants to get the ball back and he wants to link up the play and I like that.

“He’s a very good player who has everything and I’m relishing playing alongside him.

“This year we’re trying to win as many games as possible and get into Europe, then next year the manager will bring in more players to improve the squad and hopefully we can push for the top five in the Premier League.”
