A change of scenery with their FA Cup replay against Norwich is exactly what Southampton need to lift the gloom – according to midfielder Oriol Romeu.

Saints have lost four in a row in the Premier League to slip down to 13^th in the table but the cups have been a source of inspiration this season.

Claude Puel’s side take a 1-0 lead over Liverpool into the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-finals and victory over the Canaries on Wednesday will put them into the hat for the fourth round of the FA Cup as well.

And Romeu is confident his side have the character to bounce back from their poor recent league form.

“It’s not nice to lose and to have this run of four games lost in a row, but we know we have to come back,” Romeu said.

“Now it’s is a cup again and it doesn’t matter what competition it is, we need to win and try to get the good feelings back.

“We would like not to struggle. We have a good enough squad to fight for higher places and hopefully in the league we can do that. This game is important to lift our spirits.”

It is one of the most atmospheric derbies in world football, and Manchester United defender Phil Jones believes the Old Trafford crowd are to thank for rescuing a point against bitter rivals Liverpool.

United trailed with just six minutes remaining on home turf, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s header levelled up the contest before both sides settled for a point in a frantic finish.

It was a game the hosts undoubtedly had to battle for, looking like coming away pointless after James Milner’s penalty from a Paul Pogba handball opened the scoring for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

And for Jones, the majority backing of a 75,000-strong crowd proved its worth for Jose Mourinho’s side, who elected to mix things up after going a goal behind.

“You could hear them throughout the game, even when we were 1-0 down, they were terrific,” he said.

“They helped us get that equaliser, the place erupted when Ibra scored, it absolutely erupted.

“The manager said that in the first half we played too much into their hands. You could see in the second half we went a little bit more direct and they struggled to deal with it, especially with Ibra up top.

“Straight away from when the second half whistle went it must have been like a basketball match to watch.

“They attacked, we attacked, and it continued like that for the 45 minutes. It’s just unfortunate we didn’t score the goal early enough to put them under a bit more pressure to get the second that we wanted.”

Arsene Wenger has played down Alexis Sanchez’s frustrated reaction to being substituted and insists he is just a player desperate to show what he can do on the pitch.

The Chile international was taken off with ten minutes to go in the Gunners’ 4-0 hammering of Swansea City on Saturday, with Danny Welbeck coming on for his maiden Premier League appearance of the season.

But despite celebrating putting his side four goals to the good, Sanchez cut a disappointed figure at seeing his number on the board, visibly upset his game was over.

But manager Wenger believes the reaction is just a storm in a teacup, keen instead to focus on the 28-year-old’s superb form so far this season.

“You look at the numbers, he had scored 13 goals, seven assists, now 14 goals. So he was involved in about 25 goals in our team,” he said.

“But we also had players on the bench who are strikers, who need competition. We were 4-0 up.

“All the players are frustrated when they come off, some show it, some (do) not. I am long enough in the job to know that. I just make the decision I feel is right and that’s it. Nothing more than that.

“He’s a good guy who gives a lot and wants to do well, always, for the team. There is no problem.”

Chelsea winger Eden Hazard insists the number of goals on his tally is of little significance to him, as long as he and his teammates are entertaining the Blues faithful with positive results.

The Belgium international has scored nine goals in 20 Premier League appearances so far this season, after a disappointing 2015/16 campaign in which he only found the back of the net on four league outings.

But, under the guidance of head coach Antonio Conte, Chelsea have turned their fortunes around this term, and currently sit seven points clear atop the standings with Spurs and Liverpool hot on their heels.

However, team success is all that drives Hazard, who insists he just wants to have fun on the turf while helping his team to those all-important three points.

“For me, football is like this: I go on the pitch and I try to enjoy it. I do not look at statistics, I do not look at goals, I just want to go on the pitch,” he said.

“I prefer to win 5-0 and I play an amazing game, but do not score or assist, than play a bad game where I score two goals and we win 2-0.

“Football is simple, you just have to win games, so I go on the pitch, I try to do my best and try to make the fans happy. This is why I play, for my enjoyment and also for the fans.

“It is like when I go to watch a movie or a spectacle, I want to be happy. For me, when all the fans come to a game, they have to be happy, so it is my job to make sure they are and I try every game.”

Divock Origi turned in a fine 60 minutes at Old Trafford as Liverpool drew 1-1 with in-form Manchester United, and the Belgian admits it was tough work keeping up with Jose Mourinho’s physical side.

Paul Pogba’s clumsy handball handed James Milner a chance to convert his sixth penalty of the season and maintain his 100% record from the spot in Premier League games this term.

United were on a nine-game winning run and though Zlatan Ibrahimovic pegged Jurgen Klopp’s side back late on, Origi was happy with the way his teammates stood up to a physical test.

“We knew they would be physical, so I think the thing was to match the physicality and also combine our game. The game plan was to play football and use our qualities, deep balls combining with playing football in the middle,” the 21-year-old said.

“I think it’s a little bit of a disappointment because we obviously wanted to win.

“In some parts of the game we were very strong and in some parts we had to be more positive and play more up.

“Overall, it was an intense game and of course we wanted to win, so I think we have to analyse the game after to see what was good and what was bad.”

Gael Clichy and Manchester City are not discussing the Premier League title just at the moment but the defender insists much can change between now and the end of the season.

City were downed 4-0 by Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday to leave them fifth in the table – ten points behind leaders Chelsea.

But Clichy is adamant that his side are on the right track under Pep Guardiola and has backed the Citizens to turn their season around.

“We are not talking about winning the title at the moment,” he said. “If we had won it would have been seven points – that is why the Premier League is the Premier League.

“In two weekends it can change, and we have to keep this in mind. We need to keep working hard and playing our way, and we know we have the quality to get points.

“The main thing is to be solid as a team.

“We know we must do better. We want to play how we want to play, because we believe it’s the way to win games.

“Sometimes you have to be realistic – when there are chances to take you have to score, and when you defend you need to defend better.”

Leicester City must work extra hard on the training ground to put their 3-0 defeat to Chelsea at the weekend behind them as quickly as possible according to Papy Mendy.

Marcos Alonso scored twice with Pedro adding a third as the Premier League leaders comfortably saw off the reigning champions at the King Power Stadium on Saturday evening.

Leicester are just five points above the relegation zone as they continue to struggle with consistency and momentum in the league this season while Chelsea are seven points clear at the summit.

The Foxes can move level on points with Southampton on Sunday if they beat the south coast side and Mendy expects to see a reaction from the Foxes following Saturday’s defeat.

“It was difficult for us, but everything is not too bad. We will work hard this week for the next game,” he said.

“This game is finished, so it’s important now to be concentrated for the next game. It’s important to make a big reaction.

“It’s a disappointment because we played against a big team in Chelsea.

“Chelsea played well but we conceded a goal in the first few minutes. It’s very difficult to react after the goal, so the team are not happy.”

Jeffrey Schlupp has said the decision to leave defending champions Leicester City for Crystal Palace was a “no-brainer”.

The Ghana international, who came through the youth ranks at the Foxes, left the club on Friday to join Sam Allardyce’s Eagles, and made his debut against West Ham United on Saturday.

Schlupp has opted to trade the King Power Stadium and knockout Champions League action for more first-team football at Selhurst Park.

And the versatile left-sided player, who enjoyed a successful loan spell at Brentford in 2011, has said this was the right moment to make the move to London.

“I was at Leicester for many years and I think the time was right to move on and take my career onto a different path,” Schlupp said.

“I saw this opportunity come along to play for Crystal Palace and it was a no-brainer.

“Everyone knows how big the club is and you can see it is going places, it has quality players and a manager in Sam Allardyce who is known for doing well in the Premier League so it was an easy decision for me.

“Everyone knows what he is about and is a big name in the game. He has done well at a number of Premier League clubs and I look forward to working with him.”

West Ham United captain Mark Noble said his side’s 3-0 demolition of Crystal Palace was “a satisfying end to a difficult week”.

The Hammers were emphatically dumped out of the FA Cup by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on January 7, while star man Dimitri Payet has expressed a desire to return to France.

However, the Hammers brushed aside their off-field problems as they put an out-of-sorts Palace to the sword at the London Stadium on Saturday to move up to 12^th in the Premier League.

Sofiane Feghouli gave the home side the lead, before Andy Carroll raised the roof when he sent a sensational bicycle kick into the back of Wayne Hennessey’s net.

Manuel Lanzini added a late third, and Noble said the victory was a much-needed boost for the squad ahead of their clash with Middlesbrough.

“It was a definitely a satisfying end to a difficult week,” he said. “Obviously we had the Dimitri Payet situation, Big Sam [Allardyce] coming back and Tonks (James Tomkins), who is a friend of ours, coming back too, so there were a lot of factors in play.

“In the first half, there were a few nerves there, but once we got that first goal I thought we were the old West Ham.

“We went to two up-front to cause them a few more problems and it worked, so it was a really commanding performance in the end.

“I’m just happy that the situation got sorted out. A win settles nerves and puts everything on the backburner and we can look forward to Middlesbrough.”

Kyle Walker admits he’s enjoyed Tottenham’s change of system which has seen him shifted into a more advanced role.

Mauricio Pochettino has employed a 3-5-2 formation in recent weeks, using Walker and Danny Rose as wing-backs and giving them more licence to get forward.

It appears to have paid off, with Spurs now up to second in the league and having won six straight games in the top flight including victory over leaders Chelsea.

And Walker explained that the added security of extra defensive cover has allowed his game to flourish.

He said: “It’s the system we play, it’s what the gaffer wants us to do and we just have to believe in the way we play. Even if it’s not working, we still try to do the things we’ve worked on week in, week out.

“It’s paying off now. It’s still early though, we need to keep going with the same mentality and same attitude we have now.

“It’s nice, I’ve got the insurance behind me of Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama, who I think has been a fantastic signing to balance it all up, and it’s great to be able to get forward and show what I can do further up the pitch. It’s been nice to get a few more assists as it’s something I’m working on.”
